My 36 Hour Day In Three Paragraphs

I landed!

It is 4:20am at home right now, and I am raging like a champ.  All my years of college are coming in handy, and though I might regret saying this later, I am not feeling jet lag at all and have only now ordered my first coffee.  I am waiting for Hillary at the Elf in The Woods Café on Camden Passage.  It’s raining and beautiful, even though I just got lost and now have blisters on my right hand from pulling my hugemungous duffel.

I have always enjoyed traveling- the actual getting to the place I am going part I mean.  I like hovering miles above the earth, being forced to sit in one place and occupy my self, and catching up to the thoughts in my head.  This flight was no different, and it went by faster than most I have taken between home and school even though it was twice as long.  I did sleep, but not as much as I should have, and though I am not feeling it yet, I am sure that by this afternoon I will be very very tired.

I picked up my luggage and consolidated the 4 bags I was carrying (a backpack, a carryon, a red bad with heavy things in it, and the bag the bag I fit in) into just the one larger than life, I could live inside of this thing, people laugh as I pull it around the streets of London, bag.  I followed the signs to the tube and took an hour ride through London to reach Kings Cross Station.  I really wanted it to look like in Harry Potter…

And Hillary just walked in!!!  Back to her flat, out to lunch, then I’ll probably be ready for a nap J

Its 5:44pm and we just awoke from an hour nap.  I probably would have been better off not sleeping because when we laid down I didn’t know I was tired.  5 minutes later I don’t think I was conscious, but trying to wake up and hour later may have been the hardest thing I have ever had to do.  But it is amazing how much of a different person you feel like after taking a shower and brushing your teeth.

We met up with some friends at one of the very oldest pubs in London- The Fitzroy Tavern. It was great to meet some of Hill’s good friends and to hear their stories.  Rob, John and Ian were in attendance while Laura, because she broke her toe stubbing it on the end of the bed (the worst pain ever) showed up a little later.  The conversation was fantastic and, while focused on archeology/anthropology, incredibly interesting.  Even though I couldn’t understand each topic, I could hear the passion in each of their voices, and that I could at least admire, even at a loss for something to add to the conversation.

It is only now just after midnight and I am well ready for bed.  Today has been an incredible whirlwind of travel and sights, and I am happy to be resting in a bed and for longer than an hour.
